For Delegates, Counsellors, Rotary Clubs, Parent/Gaurdians and Teachers. Here is all you need to know to register and prepare for an awesome MUNA experience.

 

Checklist for your involvement in MUNA:


Checklist for Student Delegates:

  1. Delegations consist of two (2) students from year 10 or 11. Find yourself a Delegate partner to debate with. You are to act with one voice, not as individuals.
     
  2. Ask your parent/gaurdian(s) for permission to attend and engage the teacher in your school who is co-ordinating your school's MUNA involvement. Is your teacher going to be a Counsellor? Does your teacher have contact with your sponsoring Rotary Club?
     
  3. Your time at the MUNA Camp is usually funded by your local Rotary Club. For practice and to acknowledge the club funding you, you might be expected to make a presentation to your local club in your national dress. Sometimes sponsoring Rotary Clubs will also assist you to hire, purchase or create your costume - talk to your local club.
     
  4. You will agree to a Basic Behaviour Code when you register. Know the Rules & Procedures and the social media policy. Knowing and agreeing to boundarys means we can ran a smooth and fun camp and treat you like young adults, not young children.
     
  5. Register Online with your parent/gaurdian(s). They must digitally sign the permission and disclaimer part of your registration.
     
  6. Like and follow the MUNA Facebook Page. Here you can begin communicating with other Delegates and work on your BLOC negotiations before camp!
     
  7. Check your email regularly and ensure you respond to emails and surveys. Country Allocation are on a first come, first served basis in an online process a few weeks after registration for MUNA has opened. (IMPORTANT: check your email provider or email client isn't blocking Eventbrite.com or SurveyMonkey.com)
     
  8. The debate Resolutions and other information specific to your year will be published below and emailed to you. Join the discussion in the closed Facebook Group created for each MUNA year. Scroll down for year specific info.
     
  9. Communicate clearly and plan how to debate resolutions with your Delegate Partner. You both are to act in the interests of your assigned country and Awards are given the the delegations who act best as a team. Here are some Useful Links for your research.
     
  10. Be Prepared. The MUNA weekend will be heaps more rewarding if you come ready to debate. There are plenty of resources on the FAQ page to help you prepare and you can contact any of the MUNA Committee or chat in the MUNA Facebook Page if you need help.
     
  11. Make sure you have what you need and you don't bring anything that's not allowed by reading the section on Packing for Camp.
     
  12. Be considerate of the adult(s) who will be driving you to and from camp and see if you can organise car-pooling. See the Directions to camp to plan your trip. Please arrive/pick up on time.
     
  13. Wow! I think you're on to it! If you've checked everything off then you are on your way to having an awesome time at MUNA Camp!

Checklist for Counsellors

  1. If you aren't the organising teacher from the school sending the delegation, contact the organising teacher from the school.
     
  2. Understand The Role of Counsellor and the Rules & Procedures at camp.
     
  3. Ensure you have a valid and current Working With Children Check Card (or similar, if you're a teacher).
     
  4. Use the online registration form to confirm your attendance.
     
  5. Your delegation's host Rotary Club or the MUNA Committee can arrange accommodation at the camp (subject to availability) but cannot assume any financial responsibility for Counsellors’ traveling expenses or accommodation.
     
  6. Engage with, support and advise your Delegation on how to best debate the Resolutions. Join the discussion in the closed Facebook Group created for each MUNA year. All info below.
     
  7. Try sharing the ride with someone else or fill your car with Attendees? Review the Directions to camp and plan your trip. Please arrive/pick up on time.
     
  8. Wow! I think you're on to it! If you've checked everything off then you are on your way to having an awesome time at MUNA Camp!

Checklist for Rotary Clubs:

  1. Make MUNA a Club Youth project and contact the District 9820 MUNA Committee.
     
  2. Consider the cost and how many delegations your club would like to sponsor? Remember that you are also encouraged to put $50 towards each delegate's national dress costume.
     
  3. Consider which schools to approach, the MUNA Committee may be able to help you with in school contact people from previous years.
     
  4. Is you club going to send a Counsellor along? Any adult at the camp including those transporting young people should have a valid Working With Children Card. Go through the Checklist for Counsellors/Volunteers above.
     
  5. Register Online to advise the District 9820 MUNA Committee the name of your Club Representative and contact details. Your registration locks in your sponsorship commitment.
     
  6. Engage with your Delegation(s) and include them into your club's speaker schedule. This project connects youth with Rotary and gives the Delegates a chance to practice their debating before camp. Join their pre-debate conversations on the MUNA Facebook Page.
     
  7. Sometimes the sponsoring Rotary Club will organise transport for the club's delegation (and any others) to the camp and/or bringing them home from camp. Review the Directions to camp and plan your trip. Please arrive/pick up on time.
     
  8. Wow! I think you're on to it! If you've checked everything off then your club can be proud of your involvement in creating future opportunities for young people.

Expression of Interest

In the initial stages of planning for MUNA 2019 we need to receive an expression of Interest from a school or a Rotary club. Fill in a form by selecting the applicable button below:

Once you’ve registered

Firstly, please ensure you have actually registered. Once that's confirmed (by email), go through the FAQs and the Attendee's Checklist, these items tend to stay the same from year to year. The debate resolutions, workshop and camp program vary each year. When new information is released for MUNA 2019 it will be available on this page. Generally, if it's not available here, it hasn't yet been released.

Join the conversation! You know the saying, you only get out what you put in. Make it along to a workshop, *Like* the Facebook Page and Join the closed Facebook Group for 2019, this is your MUNA 2019 group. You'll get to meet the other delegates before the camp and can better plan your debates and forge your alliances for the different debate topics.

Resolutions

Each year a team from our dedicated committee research existing UN resolutions to provided MUNA delegates with relevant, interesting and challenging Resolutions for the debates.

Leading this sub-committee is Mr Alf Reina, who has had an extensive career with the United Nations, the Australian Government, NGOs and International Organisations working in the fields of migration management, human rights, refugees, peace keeping and development.

Workshops

To best help you prepare, we hold Workshops for students (delegates) who have been nominated to participate.

To make attendance easier for participants, the same workshop will be held twice:

  • Date TBC at Nossal High School, and

  • Date TBC at Traralgon College.

Both workshops will start at 9.30 am and finish at 1 pm.

Camp Program

The Program allows adults who are facilitating delegates to plan travel (i.e.- don't be afriad to carpool) and for the delegates to plan their prompt attendance at each session.

We also plan to LiveStream some debates on our Facebook Page and the program times will help those who would like to watch from afar.
